Amazon change of address when you move house

Your default address and an order you've already placed are two different things on Amazon, and only one of them is easy to fix after the fact.

"Online shopping accounts" is usually one bullet point on a moving checklist, filed next to subscriptions and loyalty schemes as a someday job. It's worth doing sooner than that with Amazon specifically, because it's probably the account you'll use again within days of moving — unpacking always turns up something you need — and because the thing most people actually mean (fixing an order already on its way) has a much smaller window than updating the account itself.

Changing your default address (do this any time)

This is the address Amazon pre-selects at checkout. Updating it doesn't touch anything already ordered — it only changes what happens on your next order.

  1. 1

    Go to Your Addresses

Log into Amazon.co.uk and open "Your Account" — the top toolbar on desktop, or the person icon in the app — then select "Your Addresses".

  2. 2

Set your new address as default

If it's already saved, select "Set as Default" beneath it. If not, choose "Add Address" and tick the option to make it the default while you're entering it.

  3. 3

Check it at the next checkout anyway

Amazon's own help page warns that if its system flags an address as wrong, you can be asked to confirm or edit it at checkout — so the first order after a move is worth a second look, not blind trust in the default.

Changing an order you've already placed — a much smaller window

This is the part people assume works like the address book and don't check until it's too late. It depends on who's actually shipping the order.

The one that outlives a single order: Subscribe & Save

If you have anything on a recurring Subscribe & Save delivery — nappies, coffee, washing powder, whatever it is — it's worth checking its own delivery address separately rather than assuming the account-wide default covers it. Amazon manages a running subscription differently from a one-off order, and the exact menu for it moves around often enough that it isn't repeated here with confidence; search your account's Subscribe & Save or Your Subscriptions page directly rather than trusting a screenshot from an old guide.

This is exactly the kind of thing the full who-to-notify list files under "the ones people forget until something goes wrong" — not urgent, not finable, just quietly annoying the first time a parcel lands at the wrong door. The change of address checklist is the same list in tick-box form if you'd rather work from that. If you're also waiting on something time-sensitive, booking broadband early matters far more than this does — Amazon costs you a re-delivery; a late broadband order costs you weeks.
